Do I really need a rug pad under my area rug?
Yes — for several reasons. A rug without padding slides on hard floors, creating a trip hazard and causing uneven wear as the rug shifts underfoot. On carpet, an unpadded rug compresses the carpet pile unevenly and can damage the rug backing over time. A properly fitted pad adds grip, cushion, and protection to both the rug and the floor beneath it.
What type of rug pad is best for hardwood and LVP floors?
For hardwood and LVP, a felt-and-rubber combination pad is the best option. The felt layer provides cushion and prevents the rug from bottoming out, while the natural rubber bottom grips the floor without leaving residue or damaging the finish. Avoid pads with PVC or synthetic rubber bottoms — they can react with polyurethane finishes and certain LVP wear layers over time, leaving marks that are difficult to remove.
What size rug pad should I order?
Your rug pad should be cut approximately one inch smaller than your rug on all sides. This keeps the pad invisible from the outside while providing full coverage under the rug. When we pick up a rug for cleaning, we can measure and quote a custom-cut pad sized to your rug's exact dimensions so it fits perfectly when the rug is returned.
Can I add a rug pad to my rug cleaning order?
Yes — rug padding can be added to any rug cleaning order. We measure the rug at pickup, cut the pad to size at our facility, and deliver both the cleaned rug and the new pad together. This is the most convenient option since the rug needs to be lifted for installation anyway. Just mention it when you book, and we'll include it in the quote.
How much does custom rug padding cost?
Rug padding is priced based on rug size and pad material. We quote based on the dimensions measured at pickup. The $300 residential minimum applies when ordered as a standalone service. When added to a rug cleaning order, it is quoted separately at the time of pickup. Contact us with your rug dimensions for an estimate before scheduling.
