Our Rug Cleaning Process — Step by Step
Every rug that comes through our facility receives a customized cleaning plan based on its fiber type, dye stability, construction, and level of soiling. Here's exactly what happens from the moment we pick up your rug to the moment we return it.
Step 1 — Pickup, Inspection, Dye Testing & Dusting
We pick up your rug from your home at no charge. At our facility, we inspect the rug’s fiber type, backing, construction, and overall condition. A dye-bleed test is performed before any water or chemistry touches the rug to ensure colors are stable and safe to wash. This step is critical for Oriental, Persian, wool, and viscose rugs where dye migration is a real risk if the wrong method or chemistry is used. We then HEPA vacuum both sides of the rug and use specialized dusting equipment to remove dry soil, dust, pet hair, and debris from deep in the pile before washing begins. Removing dry soil first makes the wash more effective and prevents soiled water from being pushed deeper into the fibers during the cleaning process.
Step 2 — Wash, Spot Treatment & Pet Odor Treatment
We wash the rug using the correct shampoo for its fiber type — synthetic rugs, wool rugs, and delicate fibers like silk and viscose each require different chemistry. Stubborn stains from coffee, grease, ink, wine, and pet accidents receive targeted specialty treatment. For rugs with pet urine, we apply a professional-grade enzyme treatment to neutralize odor at the source rather than masking it. Pet odor treatment is available as an add-on for $1.00 per square foot in addition to the base cleaning price, with a $50 minimum. We continue washing until all removable soil, residue, and odor are eliminated.
Step 3 — Agitation — Mechanical or Hand
Depending on the rug’s construction and condition, we use either controlled mechanical agitation or hand scrubbing with soft brushes for delicate rugs. This step safely loosens embedded soil, oils, and residue from deep in the fibers — the step most in-home cleaning methods cannot replicate.
Step 4 — Rinse, Centrifuge Spin & Temperature-Controlled Drying
The rug is thoroughly rinsed and spun in our rug centrifuge, which extracts water, shampoo, and contaminants far more effectively than any other drying method. We monitor the water leaving the centrifuge to confirm a clean, residue-free finish. The rug is then moved to our temperature-controlled drying room where it dries evenly and completely — protecting dyes, preventing mildew, and preserving the integrity of the fibers.
Step 5 — Grooming, Final Inspection & Delivery
We groom the rug pile for a clean, even appearance and HEPA vacuum it one final time to remove loose fibers and lint. Every rug goes through a final inspection before it is rolled, wrapped, and delivered back to your home — typically within 3 to 5 days of pickup.
